2018 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 119 BY SENATOR LONG A RESOLUTION To commend Paul Mainieri on the 1,400th victory of his college baseball coaching career. WHEREAS, Paul Mainieri has established himself as one of the most successful and distinguished coaches in college baseball history; and WHEREAS, his successful career in baseball first began while in college, where he played for one season with Louisiana State University, one year with the Miami-Dade North Community College before transferring to the University of New Orleans, where he played for two years and helped the team with two Sun Belt Conferences; and WHEREAS, after two years as a minor league player for the Niagra Falls Pirates, Paul Mainieri began his distinguished coaching career, and over the years has led the St. Thomas University Bobcats, the United States Air Force Academy, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish; and WHEREAS, since 2007, he has served as head coach of the Louisiana State University Tigers baseball team, racking up a National Collegiate Athletic Association championship, four Southeast Conference championships, has been named the National College Baseball Writers Association Coach of the Year, Baseball America Coach of the Year, Collegiate Baseball Coach of the Year, and twice has been named Southeast Conference Coach of the Year, among many other awards and accolades; and WHEREAS, on April 15, 2018, he became only the thirteenth coach in the history of Division I baseball to have accumulated 1,400 wins when he led the LSU Tigers to victory over the University of Tennessee Volunteers baseball team; and WHEREAS, this triumph is just one of many that has made Coach Mainieri an inspiration to his team, the people of Louisiana, and a legend in baseball history. Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 119 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Coach Paul Mainieri on his 1,400th victory of his college baseball coaching career.
