To express the condolences of the Senate of the Louisiana Legislature on the death of U.S. Army Sergeant Brock Rollins. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana to the 3 family of U.S. Army Sergeant Brock Rollins upon his death while serving his 4 country as a member of its armed forces. 5 WHEREAS, Brock Rollins was a native of Morgan City, born on July 2, 1990, as the 6 son of John and Jackie Dykes, and attending Berwick schools until 2008, when he graduated 7 cum laude from Berwick High School; and 8 WHEREAS, he was an outstanding athlete in high school track and field events, and 9 he also loved playing percussion in the school band, as well as being a member of the 10 Berwick Dixie Youth Baseball League; and 11 WHEREAS, Brock was a patriot in every sense of the word and after high school he 12 began to consider joining his country's military, and on September 1, 2010, he enlisted in the 13 U.S. Army, convinced he could serve his country best in its Armed Forces; and 14 WHEREAS, Brock chose the U.S. Army Infantry as his primary job specialty and 15 graduated basic combat training and Airborne School at the legendary Infantry School at 16 Fort Benning where parachutists have trained and earned their Silver Parachutist Badge since 17 the Second World War; and 18 WHEREAS, Sgt. Rollins was then stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, with the Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 129 SLS 18RS-2151 ORIGINAL 1 the historical and elite 82nd Airborne Division, 2nd 508 Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th 2 Brigade, 2nd Battalion, HHC Mortar Platoon; and 3 WHEREAS, Sgt. Rollins soon was assigned to the 1-325 Airborne Infantry 4 Regiment, 1st Battalion, HHC Mortar Platoon, with orders for overseas duty and would 5 serve two combat tours in Afghanistan; and 6 WHEREAS, Sgt. Rollins would be decorated for his brave service during those two 7 combat tours with awards of the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the 8 Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Combat Infantryman 9 Badge, and the Parachutist Badge; and 10 WHEREAS, Sgt. Rollins served two dangerous combat tours overseas and returned 11 home safely to his family and his fiancee, Aimee Bergeron, but on March 10, 2018, in 12 Fayetteville, North Carolina, while still a part of the "All American" 82nd Airborne Infantry 13 Division, he died suddenly and unexpectedly; and 14 WHEREAS, the shock and grief of Sgt. Rollins' family and friends was so great that 15 disbelief was the only feeling that most could summon upon learning of his tragic, 16 unexpected, and untimely death; and 17 WHEREAS, Sgt. Rollins was given a burial with full military honors, rendered by 18 the U.S. Army Honor Guard, and so many family, friends, and fellow soldiers came to pay 19 their final respects that the ceremony had to be held in the Morgan City Municipal 20 Auditorium. 21 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 22 does hereby extend its deepest and most profound condolences to the family and the fiancee 23 of U.S. Army Sergeant Brock Rollins for their immeasurable loss and wish to recognize him 24 for his service and for the great sacrifices he made on behalf of his country. 25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to his 26 parents John and Jackie Dykes and his fiancee Aimee Bergeron.
