SLS 18RS-2980 ORIGINAL 2018 Regular Session SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 149 BY SENATOR BARROW COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Jehovah-Jireh High School boys basketball team on winning the 2018 LHSAA Division V state championship. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend the 2017–18 Jehovah-Jireh High School boys basketball team on winning the 3 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division V state championship. 4 WHEREAS, for the first time in the history of the boys basketball program at 5 Jehovah-Jireh High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the team brought home the state 6 championship trophy with a win over defending champion Crescent City Pioneers in the 7 Division V championship game of the LHSAA Boy's Marsh Madness State Basketball 8 Tournament at Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on March 9, 2018; and 9 WHEREAS, the Jehovah-Jireh High School boys basketball team, referred to as the 10 Warriors, were intensely determine to win a basketball championship trophy for the 2017- 11 2018 year; and 12 WHEREAS, the members of the Warriors championship team included seniors: 13 Donald Johnson (#2), Trenton Payne (#21), Bryson Johnson (#4), EJ Jyles (#30) and 14 Christopher Ricks (#22); juniors: Jaron Davis (#5), Timothy Jackson (#20), and Dre'yon 15 Robertson (#24); sophomores: Jayquan Davis (#3) and Roderick Dominique (#11); and 16 freshman John-Paul Ricks (#10); and 17 WHEREAS, the championship game was an exceptional ending for the season with 18 a score of sixty-five to fifty-nine which the members, coaches, and parents agreed was a Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 149 SLS 18RS-2980 ORIGINAL 1 wonderful gift of appreciation for the outgoing senior team members; and 2 WHEREAS, the Warriors committed hard work and team cooperation resulted in 3 their achieving a major accomplishment; winning their first boys basketball state 4 championship. 5 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 6 does hereby commend Jehovah-Jireh High School boys basketball team and coaches on their 7 historic accomplishment of winning the Division V championship of the Louisiana High 8 School Athletic Association Boys Marsh Madness State Basketball Tournament, a lifetime 9 distinction and a proud first for their team and school. 10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 11 Coach Dirk Ricks in care of Jehovah-Jireh High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
