SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 150

COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Scotlandville Magnet High School boys basketball
team on winning the LHSAA 5A Division I state championship.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend the Scotlandville Magnet High School boys basketball team on winning the
3 Louisiana High School Athletic Association 5A Division I state championship.
4 WHEREAS, the Scotlandville Magnet High School boys basketball team, called the
5 Hornets, defeated St. Paul High School with a score of sixty-three to forty in the final game
6 on March 10 at the Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles, Louisiana; and
7 WHEREAS, with the March 2018 win, the varsity team captured its fifth state
8 championship in seven years under the direction of Head Coach Carlos Sample and assistant
9 coaches Jeremy Noah, Joshua Washington, Deshawn Washington, Melissa Washington, and
10 Brandon Ricard; and
11 WHEREAS, the talented Hornets team includes six seniors; Ja'Vonte Smart,
12 Domonie Robinson Jr., Da'vyon Smart, Kelvin Joseph, Trelvis Griffin Jr., and Trevon Smith;
13 five sophomores; Reece Beekman, Tai'reon Joseph, Jonathan Horton, David Thomas III, and
14 Morantz James; and freshman Zaheem Jackson; and
15 WHEREAS, each Hornets member merits recognition and congratulations for their
16 team performance and competitive spirit throughout the season and the tournament; and
17 WHEREAS, the Scotlandville Magnet High School boys basketball team is
18 recognized for the well-deserved accolades earned throughout the season and showcasing

1 the extraordinary athletic abilities they have displayed, particularly at the most difficult level
2 of high school competition.
3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
4 does hereby express its sincere congratulations to the Scotlandville Magnet High School
5 boys basketball team on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 5A
6 Division I state championship.
7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
8 Carlos Sample, head coach of the Scotlandville Magnet High School boys basketball team
9 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
