SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 210

SCHOOLS. Requests the Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame committee to select
Bobby Joe Douglas for induction into the Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To urge and request the Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame committee to select
3 Bobby Joe Douglas for induction into the Louisiana High School Sports Hall of
4 Fame.
5 WHEREAS, the Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame committee each year
6 inducts individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the high schools of
7 Louisiana through their extraordinary efforts as athletes, administrators, coaches, officials,
8 or supporters into the Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame; and
9 WHEREAS, players who have been inducted into the hall of fame have demonstrated
10 extraordinary achievement as competitors in a sport while enrolled in a Louisiana High
11 School Athletic Association member school; and
12 WHEREAS, one such player who deserves to be inducted into the Hall of Fame is
13 legendary high school basketball player Bobby Joe Douglas; and
14 WHEREAS, he attended Marion High School and had a basketball career that ranks
15 as one of the most prolific in sports history, including four national records, the number one
16 single-season average of fifty-four points per game, and finishing All-American and
17 All-State selection during the 1979-1980 season; and
18 WHEREAS, he finished his senior year with four thousand and seventy points, which

1 ranks tenth on the all-time national list; and
2 WHEREAS, he enrolled and graduated from what was then Northeast Louisiana
3 University, now the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and played for the Indians, and
4 while he continued to have great success on the court, he found his higher calling and went
5 into the ministry; and
6 WHEREAS, he is now a full-time pastor at Ivory Chapel Baptist Church in Bastrop,
7 Louisiana; and
8 WHEREAS, Bobby Joe Douglas has demonstrated the talent, skill, and character that
9 has rightly earned him consideration to be named to the Louisiana High School Sports Hall
10 of Fame.
11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
12 does hereby urge and request the Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame committee to
13 select Bobby Joe Douglas for induction into the Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame.
