SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 212

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Corporal Craig Meredith of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's
Office on being the recipient of the 2018 Deputy Valor Award presented by the Louisiana
Sheriffs' Association.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Corporal Craig Meredith of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office on being the
3 recipient of the 2018 Deputy Sheriff Valor Award presented by the Louisiana
4 Sheriffs' Association.
5 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association presents the Deputy Sheriff Valor
6 Award to recognize a deputy sheriff based on that officer's performance above and beyond
7 the call of duty and any extreme life-threatening acts of bravery; and
8 WHEREAS, Corporal Craig Meredith has served for thirteen years at the Ouachita
9 Parish Sheriff's Office; and
10 WHEREAS, he began his career as a deputy sheriff working in corrections at the
11 Ouachita Correctional Center and in 2007, he transferred to the Patrol Division where he is
12 currently assigned; and
13 WHEREAS, in 2012, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal with previous service
14 on the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office Street Crimes Apprehension Team (SCAT) and is a
15 current member of the Ouachita Parish SWAT unit; and
16 WHEREAS, last fall, Corporal Meredith responded to a call at a residence in
17 Monroe, Louisiana; the victim, an elderly male, was having great difficulty breathing and
18 was unresponsive; and

1 WHEREAS, upon arrival, Corporal Meredith noticed the victim's blue discoloration
2 and immediately began rendering first aid; after tilting the victim's head back to open the
3 airway, he found and removed a foreign object blocking air flow; and
4 WHEREAS, the victim's breathing immediately improved and discoloration began
5 to subside as he continued administering first aid until medical services arrived; and
6 WHEREAS, Corporal Meredith was instrumental in saving the victim's life; and
7 WHEREAS, Corporal Meredith's dedication, professionalism, and outstanding
8 service to the citizens of Ouachita Parish deems him worthy of the Louisiana Sheriffs'
9 Association's Deputy Valor Award; and
10 WHEREAS, Corporal Craig Meredith merits the highest commendation and sincere
11 congratulations for his exemplary public service and for his outstanding contributions to the
12 state of Louisiana and its citizens.
13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
14 does hereby commend and congratulate Corporal Craig Meredith on being the recipient of
15 the 2018 Deputy Sheriff Valor Award from the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association, does hereby
16 recognize and record for posterity his tireless dedication and service to the citizens of
17 Ouachita Parish and the state of Louisiana, and does hereby extend to him best wishes for
18 continued success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.
19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
20 Corporal Craig Meredith.
