2018 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 231 BY SENATOR PERRY A RESOLUTION To commend Kaye Broussard on her retirement after thirty-two years of teaching music, primarily at Erath Middle School in Erath, Louisiana. WHEREAS, Kaye Broussard began her teaching career in 1984 and in 1991 she began teaching in Vermilion Parish, becoming the music teacher at Erath Middle School, a position from which she will be retiring at the end of this school year; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Broussard is a graduate of Kaplan High School and earned a bachelor's degree in instrumental music education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette; and WHEREAS, Kaye Broussard has been married to Tim Broussard for thirty-three years and the couple has three children; Kristen Broussard Hargrave, Katrina Broussard Epperly, and Derek Broussard, and eight delightful grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Broussard has enjoyed sharing her love of music and her skills as both a musician and a teacher with hundreds of middle school students who opted to enroll in her band classes and many of her students she taught throughout their years at the school; and WHEREAS, principal of Erath Middle School, Wendy Stoute, said of Mrs. Broussard, "Her passion for music and for her students were evident every day. . .she will be missed," and she went on to thank Kaye Broussard for her unselfish sharing of her ability to inspire and motivate countless students who were fortunate enough to be in her band classes; and WHEREAS, believing that her life's work lay in teaching music to her very fortunate students, Kaye Broussard's selfless devotion to her students was clear to all of them, driving their efforts to excel in their musical studies; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 231 ENROLLED WHEREAS, in the 2010-2011 school year, Mrs. Broussard was named Erath Middle School Teacher of the Year and Vermilion Parish Middle School Teacher of the Year, both awards celebrating both her love of music and her amazing job of enriching the lives of her students through music; and WHEREAS, in an era where teachers are given both more responsibilities and accountability, Kaye Broussard has focused on enjoying her students, her passion for both music and teaching, and treasuring the pleasure of growing with her students throughout their middle school years; and WHEREAS, facing a future with the promise of more travel with her husband, focus on her grandchildren, and time with her entire family, Kaye Broussard has embraced the bittersweet moment of ending a teaching career full of wonderful memories and significant accomplishments and beginning a time in which she can "live on my own schedule". THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Kaye Broussard on her retirement after thirty-two years of teaching music, primarily at Erath Middle School in Erath, Louisiana.
