SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 27
BY SENATOR MIZELL 
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH.  Recognizes March 20, 2018, as the Louisiana
Community and Technical College System Workforce Experience Day at the state capitol.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To recognize Tuesday, March 20, 2018, as the Louisiana Community and Technical College
3 System Workforce Experience Day at the state capitol and commend the dedicated
4 work and contributions of the employees and students of LCTCS to the state.
5 WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges have provided
6 high-quality academic and workforce training programs since the creation of the system in
7 1999, offer credentials such as certificates, technical diplomas, industry based certifications
8 and associate degrees in high-demand, high-income industries, and provide workforce
9 solutions for business and industry; and
10 WHEREAS, in 2017, the Louisiana Community and Technical College System
11 (LCTCS) enrolled more than 131,000 students in credit, noncredit workforce training, and
12 adult education programs; and 
13 WHEREAS, in 2017, Louisiana's community and technical colleges graduated more
14 than 24,000 students with eighty percent graduating in high-demand, high-income programs;
15 and
16 WHEREAS, in 2017, Louisiana's community and technical colleges had more than
17 15,000 students transfer to various four-year universities; and
18 WHEREAS, in 2017, WorkReady U, Louisiana's comprehensive adult education

1 system, served tens of thousands of undereducated and underemployed Louisiana citizens
2 ranked fifteenth in the nation in basic skills attainment, and outpaced the national
3 measurable skills gain average by three percent and the southern average by six percent; and 
4 WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges have made it a priority
5 to build mutually beneficial partnerships with industry, to make strategic investments, and
6 to align programs and curricula to meet local and statewide industry needs; and 
7 WHEREAS, the faculty and staff and leadership team have dedicated their lives and
8 put their professional reputations on the line for the advancement of the students and the
9 communities they serve; and 
10 WHEREAS, Louisiana is served by the good works of LCTCS across the state and
11 her citizens can be confident in looking to LCTCS for solutions to all manner of challenges. 
12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
13 does hereby recognize Tuesday, March 20, 2018, as Louisiana Community and Technical
14 Colleges System Louisiana Workforce Experience Day at the state capitol and does hereby
15 commend the dedicated work and contributions of the employees and students of LCTCS
16 to the state. 
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
18 LCTCS Board of Supervisors and System President Monty Sullivan.
