RETIREMENT/FIREFIGHTERS:  Provides relative to benefit options for certain retirees
of the Firefighters' Retirement System
1	AN ACT
2To repeal R.S. 11:2259(B), relative to certain optional retirement benefits provided for in
3 the Firefighters' Retirement System; to repeal provisions applicable to a person who
4 marries after retiring.
5	Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published
6	as provided by Article X, Section 29(C) of the Constitution
7	of Louisiana.
8Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
9 Section 1.  R.S. 11:2259(B) is hereby repealed in its entirety.

Abstract:  Repeals provisions allowing a retiree of the Firefighters' Retirement System
(FRS) who marries after retirement to name that spouse as a beneficiary.
Present law provides for optional benefit allowances for FRS members and designated
beneficiaries.  Such options include providing for a beneficiary to receive retirement benefits
after the death of the member.
Proposed law retains present law.
Present law further provides that an FRS member who was single at the time of retirement
but who married and has been married for at least 12 months may select such a benefit
option for his spouse.
Proposed law repeals present law.
