PUBLIC BUILDINGS/GROUNDS: Authorizes certain parishes to name a sports complex
in honor of a living person
1 AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 33:4712.20, relative to naming public buildings; to authorize the governing
3 authority of certain parishes to name certain buildings after living persons; and to
4 provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 33:4712.20 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
7 ยง4712.20. Naming of sports complex by the governing authority of certain parishes
8 Notwithstanding R.S. 42:267 or any other law to the contrary, the governing
9 authority of a parish with a population of not less than three hundred fifty thousand
10 persons and not more than four hundred thirty-five thousand persons according to the
11 most recent federal decennial census may name a sports complex in honor of a living
12 person.

Abstract: Authorizes a parish governing authority in a parish with a population between
350,000 and 435,000 persons to name a sports complex in honor of a living person.
Present law provides that, except as otherwise provided by law, no public building owned
by the state or by any political subdivision of the state or by any institution receiving its
support in whole or in part from the state shall be named in honor of any living person.

Proposed law retains present law and authorizes the governing authority of a parish with a
population of not less than 350,000 persons and not more than 435,000 persons to name a
sports complex in honor of a living person.
