STUDENTS: Provides relative to required physical activity for public school students

2To enact R.S. 17:17.1(E), relative to required physical activity in schools; to provide relative
3 to music class and marching band as physical activity; and to provide for related
4 matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 17:17.1(E) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
7 ยง17.1. Required physical activity in schools

9 E. For purposes of this Section, movement in music class or marching band
10 constitutes quality moderate to vigorous physical activity for students.

Abstract: Provides that movement in music class and marching band counts as physical
activity for purposes of satisfying present law including the requirement that students
receive at least 30 minutes of physical activity each school day.
Present law requires each public school that includes any of the grades kindergarten through
eight to provide at least 30 minutes each school day of quality moderate to vigorous physical
activity for students. Provides that any student not enrolled in a physical education course
at a public secondary school in this state is encouraged to participate in moderate to vigorous
physical activity for at least 30 minutes each day.
