Existing law creates the Lakeshore Crime Prevention District in Orleans Parish as a political
subdivision for the purpose of aiding in crime prevention.
Prior law provided that the district would achieve this purpose by providing for an increase
in the presence of law enforcement personnel in the district. New law provides that the
district shall achieve this purpose by:
(1)Procuring private patrol services, security cameras, and other products or services
reasonably designed to enhance the security of district residents.
(2)Disseminating newsletters or other information on crime prevention or security
matters.
(3)Engaging in other activities ancillary to crime prevention.
Existing law authorizes the governing authority of the city of New Orleans, subject to voter
approval, to impose a parcel fee on behalf of the district. Prior law provided that the
maximum fee was $360 per improved parcel per year. New law provides that the maximum
fee is $420 per improved parcel per year.
Prior law provided that the fee expired on Dec. 31, 2010. New law provides that the fee
expires at the end of the term provided for in the proposition authorizing the fee. Existing
law authorizes renewal of the fee, subject to voter approval.
New law provides that the provisions of the Act have no effect on the parcel fee being
imposed within the district on the effective date of the Act.
