[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 296 Engrossed 2019 Regular Session Hoffmann Abstract: Provides for the training of peace officers and first responders with respect to interacting with Alzheimer's and dementia patients. Present law provides certain requirements for the education and training of emergency medical personnel and peace officers. Proposed law requires the La. Dept. of Health, bureau of emergency medical services and the Council on Peace Officer Standards and Training to incorporate Alzheimer's and dementia training into their education training programs. (Amends R.S. 40:2405.8(G); Adds R.S. 40:1133.1(D) and 2405.8(H)) Summary of Amendments Adopted by House The Committee Amendments Proposed by House Committee on Judiciary to the original bill: 1. Remove the requirement that the bureau and the Council on Peace Officer Standards and Training create an Alzheimer's and dementia training program for emergency medical personnel and peace officers, respectively. 2. Require the bureau and the Council on Peace Officer Standards and Training to incorporate Alzheimer's and dementia training into their current curriculum. 3. Remove the requirement that the training be completed within a certain amount of time.
