1 AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 13:5554(P), relative to sheriffs; to provide relative to retiree
3 health benefits; to provide for group insurance premiums for the sheriff and sheriff
4 deputies of St. Landry Parish; to provide certain criteria; and to provide for related
5 matters.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 13:5554(P) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
8 ยง5554. Group insurance; kinds; amounts; subrogation

10 P. Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection D of this Section, in the
11 parish of St. Landry, one hundred percent of the premium costs of group hospital,
12 surgical, and medical expense insurance and the first ten thousand dollars of life
13 insurance contracted for under the provisions of this Section shall be paid from the
14 sheriff's general fund for any sheriff or full-time deputy sheriff who has retired from
15 the St. Landry Parish sheriff's office and who is entitled to receive monthly benefits
16 from the Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund and who has either of the following: the
17 sheriff of St. Landry Parish shall pay out of the sheriff's general fund the premium
18 cost of group insurance for any sheriff or full-time deputy sheriff who has retired
19 from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office and who is entitled to receive monthly
20 benefits from the Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund as follows:
21 (1) At least twelve years of full-time service with the St. Landry Parish
22 sheriff's office and is at least fifty-five years of ageFor any sheriff or deputy sheriff

1 who was hired on or before July 1, 2019, one hundred percent of the premium costs
2 of group hospital, surgical, and medical expense insurance, and the first ten thousand
3 dollars of life insurance contracted for pursuant to the provisions of this Section, if
4 the sheriff or deputy sheriff retired with either of the following:
5 (a) At least twelve years of full-time service with the St. Landry Parish
6 Sheriff's Office and is at least fifty-five years of age.
7 (b) At least thirty years of full-time service with the St. Landry Parish
8 Sheriff's Office, regardless of age.
9 (2) At least thirty years of full-time service with the St. Landry Parish
10 sheriff's office, regardless of age For any sheriff or deputy sheriff who is hired after
11 July 1, 2019, one hundred percent of the premium costs of group hospital, surgical,
12 and medical expense insurance, and the first ten thousand dollars of life insurance
13 contracted for pursuant to the provision of this Section, if the sheriff or deputy sheriff
14 retired with either of the following:
15 (a) At least fifteen years of continuous full-time service with the St. Landry
16 Parish Sheriff's Office and is at least sixty-five years of age.
17 (b) At least thirty years of continuous full-time service with the St. Landry
18 Parish Sheriff's Office and is at least fifty-five years of age.
