INSURERS/AGENTS:  Provides relative to the appointment of an insurance producer as an
agent for an insurer
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 22:1558(D), relative to the appointment of an insurance producer
3 as an agent for an insurer; to provide for the registration of all individual producers
4 with a business entity appointed as an agent for an insurer; and to provide for related
5 matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 22:1558(D) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 
8 ยง1558.  Appointments

10	D.  If any producer is operating or intends to operate its business affairs as
11 a partnership, corporation, or other business entity, the appointments in this Section
12 may be issued by an insurer in the name of such the partnership, corporation, or other
13 business entity if all persons in such the partnership, corporation, or other business
14 entity actively engaged in soliciting, negotiating, or effecting contracts of insurance
15 or renewals thereof also hold an active producer license issued in accordance with
16 the provisions of this Subpart and are registered pursuant to R.S. 22:1546(B).

Abstract:  Requires all individual producers with a business entity appointed as an agent for
an insurer to be registered with the Dept. of Insurance. 
Present law requires that any producer, appointed as an agent by an insurer, who intends to
operate its business affairs as a partnership, corporation, or other business entity shall have
all persons of the business entity who are actively engaged in soliciting, negotiating, or
effecting contracts of insurance or renewals hold an active producer license.
Proposed law extends present law to provide that all persons actively engaged in soliciting,
negotiating, or effecting contracts of insurance or renewals shall register with the Dept. of
Insurance pursuant to present law.
