MTR VEHICLE/LICEN PLATES: Creates the "Disabled Peace Officer" specialty license plate 1 AN ACT 2To enact R.S. 47:463.202, relative to motor vehicle special prestige license plates; to provide 3 for the "Disabled Peace Officer" specialty license plate; to provide for the creation, 4 issuance, design, fees, distribution, and rule promulgation applicable to such license 5 plates; and to provide for related matters. 6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 7 Section 1. R.S. 47:463.202 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 8 ยง463.202. Special prestige license plates; "Disabled Peace Officer" 9 A. The secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall 10 establish a special prestige motor vehicle license plate to be known as the "Disabled 11 Peace Officer" plate, provided there is a minimum of one thousand applicants for 12 such plates. The license plates shall be restricted to use on passenger cars, pickup 13 trucks, recreational vehicles, and vans. 14 B. The secretary shall work in conjunction with the member of the House of 15 Representatives representing House District Number 40 to select the color and 16 design of the plate, provided it is in compliance with R.S. 47:463(A)(3). 17 C. The special prestige license plate shall be issued, upon application, to any 18 disabled peace officer, whether active or retired, who is a citizen of Louisiana in the 19 same manner as any other motor vehicle license plate. The department shall collect an annual royalty fee of twenty-five dollars 2 that shall be disbursed in accordance with Subsection E of this Section. This fee 3 shall be in addition to the standard motor vehicle license tax imposed by Article VII, 4 Section 5 of the Constitution of Louisiana, and a handling fee of three dollars and 5 fifty cents for each plate to be retained by the department to offset a portion of 6 administrative costs. 7 E. The annual royalty fee shall be collected by the department and forwarded 8 to the Louisiana Peace Officers Association. The monies received from the royalty 9 fees shall be used solely for activities and services provided by the association. 10 F. The secretary shall promulgate and adopt rules and regulations as are 11 necessary to implement the provisions of this Section. 12 Section 2. The Department of Public Safety and Corrections, office of motor 13vehicles, is hereby directed to create the special prestige license plate when the applicable 14statutory provisions are met and their system is updated to accommodate the creation of new 15plates. Proposed law directs the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections, office of motor vehicles, to create the special prestige license plate when the applicable statutory provisions are met and their system is updated to accommodate the creation of new plates. Proposed law requires the secretary to promulgate and adopt rules and regulations to implement the provisions of proposed law.
