DISTRICT ATTORNEYS: Increases the salary of the district attorney
1 AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 16:10(A) and 16:11(A)(1), relative to annual salary of district
3 attorneys payable by state; relative to annual salary of assistant district attorneys by
4 state; to provide for an increase in annual salary of district attorneys and assistant
5 district attorneys; and to provide for related matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 16:10(A) and 11(A)(1) are hereby amended and reenacted to read
8as follows:
9 §10. Annual salary of district attorneys payable by state
10 A. Effective July 1, 2019, The the annual salary of the several district
11 attorneys throughout the state of Louisiana is hereby fixed at fifty sixty thousand
12 dollars payable monthly by the state treasurer upon the warrant of the district
13 attorney.

15 Section 2. R.S. 16:11 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
16 §11. Annual salary of assistant district attorneys payable by state
17 A.(1) Except as provided in Paragraph (2) of this Subsection, effective July
18 1, 2006 2019, the annual salary of each of the several assistant district attorneys
19 throughout the state of Louisiana, including the parish of Orleans, is hereby fixed at
20 thirty-five fifty-five thousand dollars payable monthly by the state treasurer upon the

1 warrant of each of the assistant district attorneys. Effective July 1, 2007, the annual
2 salary of each of the several assistant district attorneys, throughout the state of
3 Louisiana, including the parish of Orleans, is hereby fixed at forty thousand dollars
4 payable monthly by the state treasurer upon the warrant of each of the assistant
5 district attorneys. Effective July 1, 2008, the annual salary of each of the several
6 assistant district attorneys, throughout the state of Louisiana, including the parish of
7 Orleans, is hereby fixed at forty-five thousand dollars payable monthly by the state
8 treasurer upon the warrant of each of the assistant district attorneys. Any increase
9 in salary shall be subject to an appropriation for that purpose.

11 Section 2. This Act shall become effective on July 1, 2019.

Abstract: Increases the salary of district attorneys and assistant district attorneys statewide.
Present law provides that district attorneys statewide are to receive an annual salary of
$50,000 payable monthly.
Present law provides that assistant district attorneys statewide are to receive an annual salary
of $45,000 payable monthly.
Proposed law increases the salary of district attorneys from $50,000 to $60,000 and increases
the salary of assistant district attorneys from $45,000 to $55,000.
Effective July 1, 2019.
