Abstract:  Requires any surplus witness fees collected by the 8
th
 Judicial District which exceeds
$5,000 to be transferred to the criminal court fund.
Present law provides for witness fees for off-duty law enforcement officers to be paid from the costs
of court collected in individual cases tried in district or parish courts.  The judge or judges of court
for the judicial district shall adopt a schedule of costs to be applicable in each case before that court
to which such costs are applicable.  The costs shall be placed in special funds to be maintained by
the proper governing authorities and used to pay witness fees.  
Proposed law requires surplus money in excess of $5,000 in the special account in the 8
th
 JDC to be
transferred to the criminal court fund.  The transferred money may be used for any purpose for which
the other monies in the criminal court fund for the 8
th
 Judicial District may be used.
