MTR VEHICLE/LICEN PLATES: Creates the "War of 1812" specialty license plate
1 AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 47:463.202, relative to motor vehicle special prestige license plates; to
3 establish the "War of 1812" special prestige plate; to provide for creation, issuance;
4 design, fees, distribution, and rule promulgation applicable to such license plates;
5 and to provide for related matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 47:463.202 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
8 ยง463.202. Special prestige license plate; "War of 1812"
9 A. The secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall
10 establish a special prestige motor vehicle license plate to be known as the "War of
11 1812" plate, provided there is a minimum of one thousand applicants for such plate.
12 The plate shall be restricted to use on passenger cars, pickup trucks, recreational
13 vehicles, motorcycles, and vans.
14 B. The secretary shall work in conjunction with the Society of the War of
15 1812 to select the color and design of the plate, provided it is in compliance with
16 R.S. 47:463(A)(3). The design shall include the words "War of 1812".
17 C. The special prestige license plate shall be issued, upon application, to any
18 citizen of Louisiana in the same manner as any other motor vehicle license plate.
19 D. The department shall collect an annual royalty fee of twenty-five dollars
20 that shall be disbursed in accordance with Subsection E of this Section. This fee

1 shall be in addition to the standard motor vehicle license tax imposed by Article VII,
2 Section 5 of the Constitution of Louisiana, and a handling fee of three dollars and
3 fifty cents for each plate to be retained by the department to offset a portion of
4 administrative costs.
5 E. The annual royalty fee shall be collected by the department and forwarded
6 to the Society of the War of 1812.
7 F. The secretary shall promulgate and adopt rule and regulations as are
8 necessary to implement the provisions of this Section.

Proposed law requires the secretary of the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections to issue
special prestige license plates to be known as the "War of 1812" license plate, provided there
is a minimum of 1,000 applicants for such plate.
Proposed law requires the secretary work in conjunction with the Society of the War of
1812 to select the color and design of the plate. Requires the design include the words "War
of 1812".
Proposed law specifies that the license plate be issued, upon application, to any citizen of
La. in the same manner as any other motor vehicle license plate.
Proposed law requires the department to collect an annual royalty fee of $25 in addition to
the standard motor vehicle license tax and a $3.50 handling fee for each plate to be retained
by the department to offset a portion of administrative costs.
Proposed law requires the department to forward the royalty monies to the Society of the
War of 1812.
Proposed law requires the secretary to promulgate and adopt rules and regulations to
implement the provisions provided in proposed law.
