HLS 19RS-20 ORIGINAL 2019 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 100 BY REPRESENTATIVE GAROFALO COMMENDATIONS: Commends Charles DiGange on his retirement as headmaster of Holy Cross School in New Orleans 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2To commend Charles DiGange on his retirement as headmaster of Holy Cross School in 3 New Orleans, Louisiana. 4 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Charles "Charlie" DiGange on his 5retirement as headmaster of Holy Cross School in New Orleans and to recognize 6Mr. DiGange for his unwavering dedication to the student body and the institution; and 7 WHEREAS, Charlie graduated from Holy Cross School in 1964; he returned to Holy 8Cross in 1970 to teach; from 1970 until 1989, he served the school in various capacities, 9including chemistry teacher, religion teacher, junior varsity football coach, summer camp 10director, development director, assistant principal of discipline, and assistant headmaster; 11and 12 WHEREAS, he left Holy Cross to become associate vice president for institutional 13advancement at Loyola University, where he worked from 1989 to 2004; he remained on the 14Holy Cross governing board during many of those fifteen years and returned to Holy Cross 15as headmaster in 2005; and 16 WHEREAS, he is credited with leading the school through its relocation, after 17Hurricane Katrina, from its historic Dauphine Street site in the school's namesake 18neighborhood to its current Paris Avenue address in Gentilly; a significant increase in 19enrollment followed the move; and Page 1 of 2 HLS 19RS-20 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 100 1 WHEREAS, Mr. DiGange is also credited with establishing the Holy Cross Primary 2School, which made Holy Cross the only Catholic School in the New Orleans area for boys 3from pre-kindergarten through the twelfth grade; and 4 WHEREAS, Charles DiGange has been a fixture at the school for decades; his 5retirement in June 2017 ended the second-longest tenure of any leader in the history of the 6Catholic school; and 7 WHEREAS, Holy Cross School was a part of Charles DiGange's life for fifty-six 8years; Charlie's passion for Holy Cross was unwavering, and he was a blessing to the school. 9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 10commend Charles DiGange on his retirement as headmaster of Holy Cross School in New 11Orleans, Louisiana; does hereby recognize this consummate professional for his career of 12dedicated service in the field of education; and does hereby extend best wishes to 13Mr. Charles DiGange for continued success and happiness in all of his future endeavors. 14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 15to Charles DiGange.
