SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes October 2019 as Metastatic Breast Cancer
Awareness Month
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To recognize October 2019 as Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
3 WHEREAS, breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer found in
4women in the United States; and
5 WHEREAS, in the United States, one in eight women born today will be diagnosed
6with breast cancer within her lifetime; and
7 WHEREAS, approximately six percent of newly diagnosed breast cancer cases are
8diagnosed as metastatic breast cancer; and
9 WHEREAS, it is estimated that thirty percent of early stage breast cancer cases will
10become metastatic or recurrent advanced cases; and
11 WHEREAS, educating the public regarding information, support, treatments, and
12coping methods available can help those living with the disease, and their friends and
13families; and
14 WHEREAS, the Legislature of Louisiana is dedicated to protecting the health of the
15residents of Louisiana and to supporting the fight against metastatic breast cancer; and
16 WHEREAS, in order to enhance the health and well-being of the residents of the
17great state of Louisiana, it is necessary to bring attention to the information, support, coping
18methods, and treatment strategies available to those living with the disease and their
19families; and

1 WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Legislature of Louisiana to raise
2awareness about the health concerns that affect the lives of the citizens of Louisiana and to
3promote the dissemination of information to improve the lives of the citizenry.
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
5declare the month of October 2019 as Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Month and does
6hereby encourage the citizens of Louisiana to educate themselves about metastatic breast
7cancer.
