ENROLLED 2019 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 110 BY REPRESENTATIVE STOKES A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To recognize October 2019 as Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Month. WHEREAS, breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer found in women in the United States; and WHEREAS, in the United States, one in eight women born today will be diagnosed with breast cancer within her lifetime; and WHEREAS, approximately six percent of newly diagnosed breast cancer cases are diagnosed as metastatic breast cancer; and WHEREAS, it is estimated that thirty percent of early stage breast cancer cases will become metastatic or recurrent advanced cases; and WHEREAS, educating the public regarding information, support, treatments, and coping methods available can help those living with the disease, and their friends and families; and WHEREAS, the Legislature of Louisiana is dedicated to protecting the health of the residents of Louisiana and to supporting the fight against metastatic breast cancer; and WHEREAS, in order to enhance the health and well-being of the residents of the great state of Louisiana, it is necessary to bring attention to the information, support, coping methods, and treatment strategies available to those living with the disease and their families; and WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Legislature of Louisiana to raise awareness about the health concerns that affect the lives of the citizens of Louisiana and to promote the dissemination of information to improve the lives of the citizenry. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby declare the month of October 2019 as Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Month and does Page 1 of 2 HCR NO. 110 ENROLLED hereby encourage the citizens of Louisiana to educate themselves about metastatic breast cancer.
