HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 114

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends the Calvary Baptist Academy baseball team on winning
the 2019 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division III state
championship
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To commend the Calvary Baptist Academy baseball team upon winning the 2019 Louisiana
3 High School Athletic Association Division III state championship.
4 WHEREAS, on the strength of the arm of junior Cade Hart, who threw one hundred
5two pitches and allowed only three hits, the Calvary Baptist Academy Cavaliers held their
6opponent, Ascension Episcopal, to one run on Monday, May 13, 2019, at McMurry Park in
7Sulphur at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division III championship game
8and earned a 2-1 victory and the state title; and
9 WHEREAS, the defense-heavy match marked the first baseball state title for Calvary
10Baptist Academy since 2012 and the first-ever championship for Head Coach Shannon
11Cunningham; the Cavaliers finished 2019 with an overall wins-losses record of 37-8 and
12were a perfect 13-0 in district play; and
13 WHEREAS, each student athlete on the team performed at the highest levels of
14excellence on the baseball field and deserves recognition for his vital contributions to the
15winning effort:  senior Carson Barnette; juniors Brennan Barber, Caleb Chance, Kyelor
16Coburn, Jaren Cragar, Collin Edmonds, Dylan Hagedorn, Cade Hart, Chase Jennings,
17Michael Johnson, Fox Locke, John Kyle Pearce, Raygen Snellgrove, and Mason Woodle;
18sophomores John Luke Lary, Zeke Mikesell, and Fischer Nance; freshmen Drew Bickham,
19Caden Flowers, Blaine Rogers, and Cody VanNoppen; and eighth graders Jackson Bleich,

1Jackson Legg, and Ashton Martin, all of whom displayed amazing feats of athleticism and
2endurance throughout the season; and
3 WHEREAS, Coach Cunningham and his assistants capably contributed to the
4successes of the Calvary Baptist 2019 baseball program and were invaluable to the team's
5quest to capture its state championship; Coach Cunningham has instilled an attitude of
6winning in these student athletes and has demonstrated leadership and motivational skills
7that will keep the members of the team on a path of excellence for the rest of their lives; and
8 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title the Cavaliers have
9earned; to commend the team for the ability it has displayed, particularly at the most difficult
10level of competition; and to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to the team
11members and coaching staff for the merits earned and the sportsmanship shown while
12achieving the crowning moment of Louisiana High School Athletic Association baseball and
13attaining the highest honor possible for Calvary Baptist Academy.
14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
15commend and congratulate the athletes, coaches, and support and administrative staff of the
16Calvary Baptist Academy baseball team upon winning the 2019 Louisiana High School
17Athletic Association Division III state championship, capping off a truly spectacular season,
18and does hereby recognize the team's outstanding performance and the pride and honor it has
19brought to its school and community.
20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Head
21Coach Shannon Cunningham.
