HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 114

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend the Calvary Baptist Academy baseball team upon winning the 2019 Louisiana
High School Athletic Association Division III state championship.
WHEREAS, on the strength of the arm of junior Cade Hart, who threw one hundred
two pitches and allowed only three hits, the Calvary Baptist Academy Cavaliers held their
opponent, Ascension Episcopal, to one run on Monday, May 13, 2019, at McMurry Park in
Sulphur at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division III championship game
and earned a 2-1 victory and the state title; and
WHEREAS, the defense-heavy match marked the first baseball state title for Calvary
Baptist Academy since 2012 and the first-ever championship for Head Coach Shannon
Cunningham; the Cavaliers finished 2019 with an overall wins-losses record of 37-8 and
were a perfect 13-0 in district play; and
WHEREAS, each student athlete on the team performed at the highest levels of
excellence on the baseball field and deserves recognition for his vital contributions to the
winning effort: senior Carson Barnette; juniors Brennan Barber, Caleb Chance, Kyelor
Coburn, Jaren Cragar, Collin Edmonds, Dylan Hagedorn, Cade Hart, Chase Jennings,
Michael Johnson, Fox Locke, John Kyle Pearce, Raygen Snellgrove, and Mason Woodle;
sophomores John Luke Lary, Zeke Mikesell, and Fischer Nance; freshmen Drew Bickham,
Caden Flowers, Blaine Rogers, and Cody VanNoppen; and eighth graders Jackson Bleich,
Jackson Legg, and Ashton Martin, all of whom displayed amazing feats of athleticism and
endurance throughout the season; and

WHEREAS, Coach Cunningham and his assistants capably contributed to the
successes of the Calvary Baptist 2019 baseball program and were invaluable to the team's
quest to capture its state championship; Coach Cunningham has instilled an attitude of
winning in these student athletes and has demonstrated leadership and motivational skills
that will keep the members of the team on a path of excellence for the rest of their lives; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the well-deserved title the Cavaliers have
earned; to commend the team for the ability it has displayed, particularly at the most difficult
level of competition; and to express sincere and heartfelt congratulations to the team
members and coaching staff for the merits earned and the sportsmanship shown while
achieving the crowning moment of Louisiana High School Athletic Association baseball and
attaining the highest honor possible for Calvary Baptist Academy.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and congratulate the athletes, coaches, and support and administrative staff of the
Calvary Baptist Academy baseball team upon winning the 2019 Louisiana High School
Athletic Association Division III state championship, capping off a truly spectacular season,
and does hereby recognize the team's outstanding performance and the pride and honor it has
brought to its school and community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Head
Coach Shannon Cunningham.
