SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Designates April 30, 2019, as First Responders
Appreciation Day at the state capitol and commends the service and contributions of
our first responders
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To commend first responders in Louisiana and to designate Tuesday, April 30, 2019, as First
3 Responders Appreciation Day at the Louisiana state capitol.
4 WHEREAS, first responders generally include professional and volunteer fire
5fighters, police officers, emergency medical services personnel, and public health officials;
6and
7 WHEREAS, this core group is augmented by local and state emergency management
8workers, support agencies, community organizations, and volunteers who work to support
9the frontline responders and to respond to the needs of those in harm's way; and
10 WHEREAS, together they form a vital pillar of our communities and play a crucial
11role in saving lives and in ensuring public safety, especially in times of crisis; and
12 WHEREAS, in performing their services, first responders are regularly called to
13work devotedly and selflessly for the benefit of others, regardless of the risks incurred to
14themselves; and
15 WHEREAS, many hours of education and training are required to develop the
16expertise necessary to respond at a moment's notice and to work on the frontlines of a
17multitude of emergency situations; and
18 WHEREAS, despite the best preparation, far too often, such emergency situations
19result in first responders making the ultimate sacrifice; and

1 WHEREAS, whether assisting an individual in a particular emergency situation or
2a number of individuals suffering from the aftermath of a mass terrorist attack or other act
3of violence, it is the heroic work of first responders working together that helps to save lives
4and property; and
5 WHEREAS, first responders deserve recognition for their courageous work and for
6the personal risks they take on to protect our communities, and thus they should be honored
7for the contributions that they make to enhance our quality of life and overall sense of
8security.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
10commend first responders for their service and contributions to the people of the great state
11of Louisiana and does hereby designate Tuesday, April 30, 2019, as First Responders
12Appreciation Day at the state capitol.
