SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes May 14, 2019, as School Board Member and
School Superintendent Recognition Day at the state capitol
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To designate Tuesday, May 14, 2019, as School Board Member and School Superintendent
3 Recognition Day at the state capitol.
4 WHEREAS, the Louisiana School Boards Association (LSBA) strives daily to fulfill
5its mission of leadership, service, and support for local school boards; and
6 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Association of School Superintendents (LASS) strives
7daily to realize its mission of promoting strong and professional educational leadership; and
8 WHEREAS, the LSBA and LASS recognize that an effective educational system
9requires meaningful collaboration; and
10 WHEREAS, local school boards in the state of Louisiana help determine goals for
11the education of approximately seven hundred thousand children in prekindergarten through
12twelfth grade; and
13 WHEREAS, Louisiana's six hundred forty-three local school board members, who
14represent all sixty-nine school districts in Louisiana, serve as advocates for public school
15students as they work with administrators, teachers, and parents to improve public schools;
16and
17 WHEREAS, Louisiana's sixty-nine school superintendents work with school boards
18and educational stakeholders in the community for the overall betterment of public education
19for students; and
20 WHEREAS, school boards and superintendents strive to provide the resources
21necessary to meet the needs of all students, including students with special needs; and

1 WHEREAS, school boards and superintendents also provide accountability to the
2public, communicate the needs of the school district to the public, and convey to school
3administrators the public's expectations for the schools; and
4 WHEREAS, it is imperative that all citizens of Louisiana work with their local
5school boards and school superintendents towards the improvement of public education for
6students in Louisiana; and
7 WHEREAS, the members of the Louisiana House of Representatives and the
8Louisiana Senate sincerely appreciate the important contributions of local school board
9members and school superintendents.
10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
11commend local school board members and school superintendents for their extraordinary
12services to the state of Louisiana and does hereby designate Tuesday, May 14, 2019, as
13School Board Member and School Superintendent Recognition Day at the state capitol.
14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
15executive directors of the Louisiana School Boards Association and the Louisiana
16Association of School Superintendents.
