COMMENDATIONS: Commends Louisiana's Urban Search and Rescue Task Force for its
response to Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Louisiana's Urban Search and Rescue Task Force for its response to Hurricane
3 Florence and Hurricane Michael.
4 WHEREAS, the Urban Search and Rescue Task Force members who responded were
5firefighters and medics from New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Pineville, Alexandria, and the
6Monroe area; they were among the first teams to arrive in hurricane-impacted areas in the
7aftermath of Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael; and
8 WHEREAS, in September 2018, Hurricane Florence caused catastrophic damage to
9the Carolinas; the following month, Hurricane Michael made landfall in Florida; and
10 WHEREAS, Louisiana emergency personnel headed north to the Carolinas as
11Florence bore down on the coastline; among those who traveled to aid their neighbors were
12a swift water rescue team, an urban search and rescue team, and talented and skilled medics;
13and
14 WHEREAS, in anticipation of Michael hitting the Florida Panhandle, the office of
15the state fire marshal sent a ninety-member crew with search and rescue equipment to help
16after the Category 4 storm hit; brave men and women from across the great state of
17Louisiana responded to an assistance request from the Florida state fire marshal; and
18 WHEREAS, this assistance was vital to the eventual recovery of the areas affected
19by Florence and Michael; and
20 WHEREAS, during the dark days that Florida and the Carolinas experienced as a
21result of Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael, the efforts of Louisianans served as a

1comforting reminder that our brothers and sisters need not face crises alone and that with this
2kind of gracious assistance, those who were affected by the storms can rebuild and restore
3their homes and lives.
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
5Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Louisiana's Urban Search and Rescue Task
6Force for its response to Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael and does hereby express
7enduring gratitude and appreciation to these wonderful individuals for their remarkable
8assistance to the citizens of Florida and the Carolinas in a historic time of need.
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to H.
10Butch Browning, state fire marshal.
