ENROLLED 2019 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 125 BY REPRESENTATIVE CHAD BROWN A RESOLUTION To commend Louisiana's Urban Search and Rescue Task Force for its response to Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael. WHEREAS, the Urban Search and Rescue Task Force members who responded were firefighters and medics from New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Pineville, Alexandria, and the Monroe area; they were among the first teams to arrive in hurricane-impacted areas in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael; and WHEREAS, in September 2018, Hurricane Florence caused catastrophic damage to the Carolinas; the following month, Hurricane Michael made landfall in Florida; and WHEREAS, Louisiana emergency personnel headed north to the Carolinas as Florence bore down on the coastline; among those who traveled to aid their neighbors were a swift water rescue team, an urban search and rescue team, and talented and skilled medics; and WHEREAS, in anticipation of Michael hitting the Florida Panhandle, the office of the state fire marshal sent a ninety-member crew with search and rescue equipment to help after the Category 4 storm hit; brave men and women from across the great state of Louisiana responded to an assistance request from the Florida state fire marshal; and WHEREAS, this assistance was vital to the eventual recovery of the areas affected by Florence and Michael; and WHEREAS, during the dark days that Florida and the Carolinas experienced as a result of Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael, the efforts of Louisianans served as a comforting reminder that our brothers and sisters need not face crises alone and that with this kind of gracious assistance, those who were affected by the storms can rebuild and restore their homes and lives. Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 125 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Louisiana's Urban Search and Rescue Task Force for its response to Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael and does hereby express enduring gratitude and appreciation to these wonderful individuals for their remarkable assistance to the citizens of Florida and the Carolinas in a historic time of need.
