SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes May 11, 2019, as New Orleans District
Nurses Association Day
1 A RESOLUTION
2To recognize Saturday, May 11, 2019, as New Orleans District Nurses Association Day.
3 WHEREAS, in the United States, registered nurses constitute the nation's largest
4healthcare profession; and
5 WHEREAS, because of its scope and diversity, the registered nursing profession is
6well suited to meeting the diverse healthcare needs of the American population in a wide
7range of settings; and
8 WHEREAS, as the voice for registered nurses in the United States, the American
9Nurses Association is working to chart a new course for a nation that relies on the delivery
10of primary and preventative health care; and
11 WHEREAS, in a national context characterized by a renewed emphasis on the
12delivery of primary and preventative health care, it will be necessary for the nation to make
13better use of its registered nursing resources; and
14 WHEREAS, according to studies, professional nursing is an indispensable
15component of quality health care for hospitalized patients; and
16 WHEREAS, in the future, the demand for registered nursing services will be greater
17than ever because of the aging of the American population, the continuing expansion of life-
18sustaining technologies, and the explosive growth of home healthcare services; and
19 WHEREAS, for the foreseeable future, more qualified registered nurses will be
20needed to meet the increasingly complex needs of the nation's healthcare consumers; and

1 WHEREAS, the cost-effective, safe, and high-quality healthcare services provided
2by registered nurses will be an increasingly important component of our nation's healthcare
3delivery system; and
4 WHEREAS, along with the American Nurses Association, the New Orleans District
5Nurses Association has declared the week of May 6-12 as National Nurses Week with the
6theme "4 Million Reasons to Celebrate" in recognition of the vast contributions and positive
7impact of America's four million registered nurses, all of whom deserve a gesture of
8gratitude.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
10Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Saturday, May 11, 2019, as New Orleans
11District Nurses Association Day and does hereby encourage all residents of Louisiana to join
12together in honoring the registered nurses who provide quality care for all and who work to
13improve our healthcare system daily.
14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
15president of the New Orleans District Nurses Association.
