HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 127
BY REPRESENTATIVE BARRAS
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends and expresses appreciation to the Honorable Patricia
Haynes Smith for her outstanding legislative service and recognizes her contributions
to her district and the state
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Honorable Patricia Haynes Smith and to express enduring gratitude for her
3 outstanding contributions to East Baton Rouge Parish, and the state of Louisiana,
4 particularly during her tenure as a distinguished member of the Louisiana House of
5 Representatives.
6 WHEREAS, Patricia Haynes Smith is a notable public servant who has served with
7excellence as a state representative since taking office in 2008, during which time she has
8fully used every opportunity to serve the citizens of District No. 67 and the state in an
9honorable and dedicated manner; and
10 WHEREAS, a graduate of Glenville High School, Representative Smith received a
11bachelor of science degree in education from Kent State University and pursued post-
12graduate work at both Louisiana State University and Youngstown State University; and
13 WHEREAS, Representative Smith has been a proud member of the Capital Region
14Delegation; Democratic Caucus, for which she served as whip and treasurer; Black Caucus,
15for which she served as chair, first vice-chair, and treasurer; and Women's Caucus, for which
16she served as member at large; and
17 WHEREAS, Representative Smith's diligent committee service has included serving
18as the chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Elementary
19and Secondary Education, and she has served as a member of the House Committee on

1Appropriations, the House Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Education, the
2House Committee on Education, the House Committee on Labor and Industrial Relations,
3the House Committee on Municipal, Parochial and Cultural Affairs, and the Joint Legislative
4Committee on the Budget; and
5 WHEREAS, during her time in the House of Representatives, Representative Smith
6has authored and supported many important pieces of legislation; and
7 WHEREAS, Pat Smith will forever have a special place in the chronicles of the
8history of Louisiana, for she is one of Louisiana's most outstanding public servants; and
9 WHEREAS, as she prepares to embark on the next exciting and productive chapter
10of her life, Representative Smith merits a sincere measure of commendation for her singular
11contributions and the exemplary strides she has taken as an exceptional member of the
12Louisiana House of Representatives.
13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
14Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Honorable Patricia Haynes Smith; does
15hereby extend honor and recognition to her for her outstanding accomplishments,
16particularly during her tenure as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, which
17has been marked by her uncompromising endeavor to improve the welfare of her
18constituents in East Baton Rouge Parish and the citizens of the state of Louisiana; and does
19hereby pay tribute to her for the generous and effective way in which she has dedicated her
20intelligence and her energy to the service of her family, friends, community, and state.
21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Louisiana House of Representatives hereby
22expresses enduring gratitude to Representative Smith for her service to the citizens of
23Louisiana, as evidenced by her superlative achievements as a member of this distinguished
24body, and does hereby extend to her the best wishes of all her colleagues for continued
25prosperity and success in her future endeavors.
26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
27Honorable Patricia Haynes Smith.
