A RESOLUTION
To commend the Honorable Patricia Haynes Smith and to express enduring gratitude for her
outstanding contributions to East Baton Rouge Parish, and the state of Louisiana,
particularly during her tenure as a distinguished member of the Louisiana House of
Representatives.
WHEREAS, Patricia Haynes Smith is a notable public servant who has served with
excellence as a state representative since taking office in 2008, during which time she has
fully used every opportunity to serve the citizens of District No. 67 and the state in an
honorable and dedicated manner; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Glenville High School, Representative Smith received a
bachelor of science degree in education from Kent State University and pursued post-
graduate work at both Louisiana State University and Youngstown State University; and
WHEREAS, Representative Smith has been a proud member of the Capital Region
Delegation; Democratic Caucus, for which she served as whip and treasurer; Black Caucus,
for which she served as chair, first vice-chair, and treasurer; and Women's Caucus, for which
she served as member at large; and
WHEREAS, Representative Smith's diligent committee service has included serving
as the chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Elementary

and Secondary Education, and she has served as a member of the House Committee on
Appropriations, the House Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Education, the
House Committee on Education, the House Committee on Labor and Industrial Relations,
the House Committee on Municipal, Parochial and Cultural Affairs, and the Joint Legislative
Committee on the Budget; and
WHEREAS, during her time in the House of Representatives, Representative Smith
has authored and supported many important pieces of legislation; and
WHEREAS, Pat Smith will forever have a special place in the chronicles of the
history of Louisiana, for she is one of Louisiana's most outstanding public servants; and
WHEREAS, as she prepares to embark on the next exciting and productive chapter
of her life, Representative Smith merits a sincere measure of commendation for her singular
contributions and the exemplary strides she has taken as an exceptional member of the
Louisiana House of Representatives.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Honorable Patricia Haynes Smith; does
hereby extend honor and recognition to her for her outstanding accomplishments,
particularly during her tenure as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, which
has been marked by her uncompromising endeavor to improve the welfare of her
constituents in East Baton Rouge Parish and the citizens of the state of Louisiana; and does
hereby pay tribute to her for the generous and effective way in which she has dedicated her
intelligence and her energy to the service of her family, friends, community, and state.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Louisiana House of Representatives hereby
expresses enduring gratitude to Representative Smith for her service to the citizens of
Louisiana, as evidenced by her superlative achievements as a member of this distinguished
body, and does hereby extend to her the best wishes of all her colleagues for continued
prosperity and success in her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Honorable Patricia Haynes Smith.
