HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 169
BY REPRESENTATIVE LEGER
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends the Johnson & Johnson Global Pro Bono program and
its efforts in New Orleans
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Johnson & Johnson Global Pro Bono program, part of the Talent for Good
3 program, operating in New Orleans, Louisiana, and its focus on healthcare.
4 WHEREAS, Johnson & Johnson maintains an active program that provides paid time
5off for employees and pairs those employees with nonprofit organizations, so the skills of
6the employee are matched with a skill set needed around the world; and
7 WHEREAS, the Johnson & Johnson Global Pro Bono program is a collaboration
8with PYXERA Global, an international organization that has leveraged the unique strengths
9of corporations, governments, and social sector organizations to solve complex problems and
10to attain mutually beneficial goals such that both the community and the volunteers reap
11benefits; and
12 WHEREAS, the program in New Orleans is only the third launched worldwide by
13Johnson & Johnson; it will involve partnering with the city of New Orleans, CrescentCare,
14Priority Health Care, and an organization, known as SBP, formed in the aftermath of
15Hurricane Katrina to assist the people of St. Bernard Parish; and
16 WHEREAS, the team will work with CrescentCare to align key initiatives with the
17strategic vision of the organization for maximum community impact; and
18 WHEREAS, Priority Health Care will collaborate with participants to create strong
19marketing strategy in order to support customer acquisition of healthcare services; and
20 WHEREAS, employee participants will use their expertise to partner with the city
21of New Orleans to identify effective and efficient processes to improve operations; and

1 WHEREAS, part of the cohort of Johnson & Johnson employees will work with SBP
2to develop a performance management program that will result in better hires, improved
3training, and retention of a diverse workforce; and
4 WHEREAS, the program is an unparalleled global leadership development
5opportunity; nonprofit and governmental organizations gain expertise through consulting
6that would otherwise be unavailable; and for the companies that participate, they gain insight
7into new markets and develop authentic reputations by highlighting their commitment to a
8positive corporate social responsibility; and
9 WHEREAS, the Johnson & Johnson Global Community Impact Team works with
10Johnson & Johnson Associates around the globe to apply their hearts, skills, and ingenuity
11to make a sustainable difference in the lives of others; and
12 WHEREAS, the work of volunteers and nonprofit organizations has been
13instrumental in rebuilding and reenergizing the city of New Orleans and its surrounding
14areas since the horrendous devastation of Hurricane Katrina; and
15 WHEREAS, with areas of the city still recovering and a healthcare system that was
16virtually shut down for several months; excellent healthcare was largely inaccessible, and
17resources to properly care for the city's inhabitants were scarce; and
18 WHEREAS, today, many of the post-Katrina obstacles have been dealt with and
19accessible healthcare has returned for many in the New Orleans area, but pockets of
20inaccessibility remain, and the employees of Johnson & Johnson will be tackling a wide
21range of the most intractable healthcare issues in the city.
22 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
23Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Johnson & Johnson Global Pro Bono
24program, part of the Talent for Good program, operating in New Orleans, Louisiana, and its
25focus on healthcare.
26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
27Johnson & Johnson.
