HLS 19RS-987 ORIGINAL 2019 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 17 BY REPRESENTATIVE JAMES SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes April 9, 2019, as Children's Day at the state capitol 1 A RESOLUTION 2To recognize Tuesday, April 9, 2019, as Children's Day at the state capitol. 3 WHEREAS, children and youth under the age of eighteen make up under twenty-five 4percent of Louisiana's population; and 5 WHEREAS, in a Kids Count survey, Louisiana's children have averaged next to last 6for the last twenty-nine years; and 7 WHEREAS, Louisiana's children have the highest rate of poverty in the country; and 8 WHEREAS, there is no greater return on investment of state dollars than spending 9on children, particularly on children aged three or younger; and 10 WHEREAS, the well-being of children is the foundation Louisiana's economic 11development, workforce development, and long-term well-being; and 12 WHEREAS, whereas every citizen of Louisiana has a duty to the state's children to 13ensure that they have the best opportunities available; and 14 WHEREAS, it is important to recognize the work that all of the child-serving 15organizations in the state do everyday to improve the lives of children and their families; and 16 WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to recognize that child-serving programs and 17support systems are making a real difference in the lives of children by putting them on a 18better and more secure life path. 19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 20Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Tuesday, April 9, 2019, as Children's Day Page 1 of 2 HLS 19RS-987 ORIGINAL HR NO. 17 1at the state capitol and does hereby recognize the hard work and dedication of all of those 2who are working to improve the lives of the children of Louisiana.
