COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Madison Preparatory Academy boys' basketball
team on winning the 2019 Class 3A state championship
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Madison Preparatory Academy boys' basketball team on winning the 2019
3 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A state championship.
4 WHEREAS, on Saturday, March 9, 2019, in Lake Charles, the Madison Prep
5Chargers completed a remarkable season by earning the title of 2019 Class 3A state
6champions after securing a 61-54 win over the Wossman High School Wildcats; and
7 WHEREAS, this championship marks the team's fifth consecutive title; overall, it is
8the sixth title for Madison Prep in its nine-year-old basketball program, after also claiming
9titles in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018; and
10 WHEREAS, the accolades for the Chargers did not stop there; Jeff Jones was named
11the Class 3A coach of the year, Jahein Spencer was named the Class 3A player of the year,
12and Jason Perry was voted the title game's most valuable player; and
13 WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest level of excellence
14throughout the 2019 regular season and playoffs; the team's amazing feats could not have
15been achieved without the unwavering dedication, support, and guidance of head coach Jeff
16Jones and his coaching staff: Torry Beaulieu, Chetwin Carter, James Ross, and Karl
17Washington; as well as the passion of the many Charger supporters who contributed to the
18success of the school's basketball program; and
19 WHEREAS, all alumni and fans recognize the tremendous honor, pride, and joy that
20the team brings to Madison Preparatory Academy, East Baton Rouge Parish, and the state
21of Louisiana.

1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
2Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Madison Preparatory Academy boys'
3basketball team on winning the 2019 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A
4state championship; does hereby record for posterity this exceptional team's triumph in the
5great sport of basketball; and does hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and
6everyone involved with this fine basketball program as they celebrate their championship
7season and prepare for continued success in the future.
8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
9Coach Jeff Jones.
