COMMENDATIONS: Commends Ditch Diggers from Lafitte on winning the 2019
Louisiana Crawfish Boil Championship in Marrero
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Ditch Diggers from Lafitte, Louisiana, upon winning the 2019 Louisiana
3 Crawfish Boil Championship in Marrero.
4 WHEREAS, crawfish, fondly called mudbugs by many, are an excellent source of
5high-quality protein, vitamin B12, and other essential minerals and are low in calories, fat,
6and saturated fat; and
7 WHEREAS, these freshwater crustaceans are abundant in the swamps and marshes
8of south Louisiana and have long been part of the food culture of the state; crawfish, in
9season, are a staple of the diet of South Louisianians in backyard boils and neighborhood
10get-togethers, and boiling crawfish has risen to the level of culinary competitive art; and
11 WHEREAS, on April 6, 2019, at the eighteenth annual Louisiana Crawfish Boil
12Championship, it was an all-out battle between the best crawfish boilers in the state; sixty
13teams of competitors brought their boiling pots, crawfish, seasonings, and the fire to heat up
14the city of Marrero, where the championship took place; and
15 WHEREAS, after the judges donned their aprons, boiled and seasoned mudbugs
16galore were spread across newspapers that topped tables, and the tasting began; when the
17pots were cooled and the crawfish devoured, Ditch Diggers from Lafitte were declared
18winners of the 2019 Louisiana Crawfish Boil Championship, and it is with great pride that
19the members of the House applaud Ditch Diggers for their excellence in crawfish boiling and
20their contribution to the flavor of Louisiana.

1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
2Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Ditch Diggers from Lafitte, Louisiana, upon
3winning the title of 2019 Louisiana Crawfish Boil Champions at the eighteenth annual
4Marrero crawfish boiling competition and does hereby express best wishes for many more
5years of delicious dishing of mudbugs to all who enjoy this tasty state staple.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Ditch
7Diggers.
