SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes May 22, 2019, as Louisiana Housing
Council Day at the state capitol and commends the Louisiana Housing Council
1 A RESOLUTION
2To designate Wednesday, May 22, 2019, as Louisiana Housing Council Day at the state
3 capitol and to commend the Louisiana Housing Council for its accomplishments.
4 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Housing Council, or LHC, is composed of over two
5hundred public housing entities that are subdivided into six regions across the state; and
6 WHEREAS, the LHC promotes and advances the provision of affordable housing
7to approximately seventeen thousand low-income residents, of which more than one-fourth
8are elderly and handicapped; and
9 WHEREAS, many of the LHC's member agencies provide a number of services
10related to housing, including job training, home ownership assistance, protective services,
11child care, educational assistance, and youth services; and
12 WHEREAS, the LHC strives to create stronger and more dynamic communities and
13works with other local agencies to enhance the quality of life for citizens throughout the
14state; and
15 WHEREAS, the LHC awards scholarships to high school students based on academic
16achievement, extracurricular activities, family need, and community involvement; and
17 WHEREAS, with the presentation of the Phillip W. Miller awards, the LHC honors
18the achievements of its outstanding members who promote excellence in housing
19administration with exemplary leadership, high ethical standards, and exceptional
20management skills; and

1 WHEREAS, the LHC constantly strives to provide decent, safe, and sanitary housing
2and, in so doing, reduce crime, improve health outcomes, and renovate blighted property,
3thereby benefitting society as a whole; and
4 WHEREAS, the LHC will hold its annual legislative conference in Baton Rouge on
5May 21-24, 2019.
6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
7Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Wednesday, May 22, 2019, as Louisiana
8Housing Council Day at the state capitol and does hereby commend the Louisiana Housing
9Council for its outstanding accomplishments.
10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
11Pamela Fontenot, president of the Louisiana Housing Council.
