HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 192
BY REPRESENTATIVE SMITH
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH:  Recognizes May 22, 2019, as Women in Blue Day at the
state capitol
1	A RESOLUTION
2To recognize Wednesday, May 22, 2019, as Women in Blue Day at the state capitol and to
3 commend the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women.
4 WHEREAS, the National Federation of Democratic Women, or NFDW, was formed
5in October 1971, when twenty-seven women gathered at a breakfast during the Democratic
6Women's Leadership Conference at the Capitol Hilton in Washington, D.C.; and
7 WHEREAS, from 1972 to 1977, the organization gained recognition from the
8Democratic National Committee as the official women's organization of party members and
9received a seat on the Democratic National Committee Executive Committee and three seats
10on the Democratic National Committee, or DNC; and
11 WHEREAS, the objective of the NFDW is to unite women of the Democratic party,
12promote the cause of the Democratic Party, and encourage full participation of women at
13every level of its structure; and
14 WHEREAS, the LFDW is an organization dedicated to empowering the women of
15the Democratic Party across the state of Louisiana and to promoting the views and values
16of the Democratic Party; and
17 WHEREAS, the LFDW has begun rechartering women's groups across Louisiana to
18affiliate with the national organization; and
19 WHEREAS, on May 22, 2019, members of the LFDW will be visiting the state
20capitol in recognition of Women in Blue Day, an event taking place across the United States
21in support of the Democratic Party.

1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
2Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Wednesday, May 22, 2019, as Women in
3Blue Day at the state capitol and does hereby commend the Louisiana Federation of
4Democratic Women for its dedication to empowering women of the Democratic Party across
5Louisiana and to promoting the views and values of the Democratic Party.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
7president of the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women.
