HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 192
BY REPRESENTATIVE SMITH
A RESOLUTION
To recognize Wednesday, May 22, 2019, as Women in Blue Day at the state capitol and to
commend the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women.
WHEREAS, the National Federation of Democratic Women, or NFDW, was formed
in October 1971, when twenty-seven women gathered at a breakfast during the Democratic
Women's Leadership Conference at the Capitol Hilton in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, from 1972 to 1977, the organization gained recognition from the
Democratic National Committee as the official women's organization of party members and
received a seat on the Democratic National Committee Executive Committee and three seats
on the Democratic National Committee, or DNC; and
WHEREAS, the objective of the NFDW is to unite women of the Democratic party,
promote the cause of the Democratic Party, and encourage full participation of women at
every level of its structure; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women, or LFDW, is an
organization dedicated to empowering the women of the Democratic Party across the state
of Louisiana and to promoting the views and values of the Democratic Party; and
WHEREAS, the LFDW has begun rechartering women's groups across Louisiana to
affiliate with the national organization; and
WHEREAS, on May 22, 2019, members of the LFDW will be visiting the state
capitol in recognition of Women in Blue Day, an event taking place across the United States
in support of the Democratic Party.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Wednesday, May 22, 2019, as Women in

Blue Day at the state capitol and does hereby commend the Louisiana Federation of
Democratic Women for its dedication to empowering women of the Democratic Party across
Louisiana and to promoting the views and values of the Democratic Party.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
president of the Louisiana Federation of Democratic Women.
