SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH:  Recognizes May 23, 2019, as Anti-Hunger Advocacy
Day at the state capitol
1	A RESOLUTION
2To recognize Thursday, May 23, 2019, as Anti-Hunger Advocacy Day at the state capitol.
3 WHEREAS, Feeding Louisiana is an organization that acts as a unified voice for the
4five major food banks in the state; and
5 WHEREAS, these food banks collectively work with more than nine hundred faith-
6and community-based partners to serve Louisianians in need in every parish in the state; and
7 WHEREAS, all in all, the Feeding Louisiana network aims to provide short-term
8food relief even as it seeks to discover long-term solutions to the problem of hunger through
9advocacy, education, and leadership; and
10 WHEREAS, through this emergency food network, these food banks provide 77.1
11million pounds of food to communities facing hunger every year, an amount that equals 64
12million meals; and
13 WHEREAS, on May 23, 2019, more than one hundred fifty individuals from food
14banks, community organizations, partner agencies, advocacy organizations, and state
15government will gather at the state capitol for a day of advocacy, education, and networking;
16and
17 WHEREAS, these individuals will attempt to call attention to the severe problem of
18hunger in Louisiana and will also highlight the role of food banks, community organizations,
19and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, in addressing this problem;

1 WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the House of Representatives to recognize
2Thursday, May 23, 2019, as Anti-Hunger Advocacy Day at the state capitol.
3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
4Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Thursday, May 23, 2019, as Anti-Hunger
5Advocacy Day at the state capitol and does hereby commend the members of Feeding
6America for their tireless efforts to combat the problem of hunger in Louisiana.
