ENROLLED 2019 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 194 BY REPRESENTATIVE DUPLESSIS A RESOLUTION To recognize Thursday, May 23, 2019, as Anti-Hunger Advocacy Day at the state capitol. WHEREAS, Feeding Louisiana is an organization that acts as a unified voice for the five major food banks in the state; and WHEREAS, these food banks collectively work with more than nine hundred faith- and community-based partners to serve Louisianians in need in every parish in the state; and WHEREAS, all in all, the Feeding Louisiana network aims to provide short-term food relief even as it seeks to discover long-term solutions to the problem of hunger through advocacy, education, and leadership; and WHEREAS, through this emergency food network, these food banks provide 77.1 million pounds of food to communities facing hunger every year, an amount that equals 64 million meals; and WHEREAS, on May 23, 2019, more than one hundred fifty individuals from food banks, community organizations, partner agencies, advocacy organizations, and state government will gather at the state capitol for a day of advocacy, education, and networking; and WHEREAS, these individuals will attempt to call attention to the severe problem of hunger in Louisiana and will also highlight the role of food banks, community organizations, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, in addressing this problem; and WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the House of Representatives to recognize Thursday, May 23, 2019, as Anti-Hunger Advocacy Day at the state capitol. Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 194 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Thursday, May 23, 2019, as Anti-Hunger Advocacy Day at the state capitol and does hereby commend the members of Feeding Louisiana for their tireless efforts to combat the problem of hunger in Louisiana.
