SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes June 2019 as Rural Farmers Market Month
in Louisiana
1 A RESOLUTION
2To recognize June 2019 as Rural Farmers Market Month in Louisiana.
3 WHEREAS, in the state of Louisiana, the health of and well-being of the citizenry
4are of primary concern; and
5 WHEREAS, by supporting sustainable family farms and local artisans, citizens
6benefit the economy of the community that they call home; and
7 WHEREAS, farmers markets increase access to fresh and healthy food and serve as
8safe and inclusive gathering places for individuals and families; and
9 WHEREAS, farmers markets provide a low-barrier entry point for agricultural
10entrepreneurs that allows them to start small, test products and strategies, and grow their
11businesses; and
12 WHEREAS, by promoting rural markets, citizens highlight the unique communities
13that comprise the state of Louisiana and thus help to preserve its rich culture and history; and
14 WHEREAS, in order to develop a community-based food system in Louisiana, it is
15essential to build a network of farmers markets across the state.
16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
17Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize June 2019 as Rural Farmers Market Month
18in Louisiana and does hereby call upon the citizens of Louisiana to support their local
19farmers markets that collectively benefit the culture and economy of the state.
