HOUSE/RULES: Provides relative to the member-elect who presides over the
organizational meeting of the House of Representatives
1 A RESOLUTION
2To amend and readopt House Rule 2.2(A) of the Rules of Order of the House of
3 Representatives to provide relative to the member-elect who presides during the
4 organizational meeting of the House.
5 BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana
6that House Rule 2.2(A) of the Rules of Order of the House of Representatives is hereby
7amended and readopted to read as follows:
8 Rule 2.2. Organization Organizational meeting of the House
9 A. The members of the House shall meet in the House Chamber every four
10 years at 10:00 a.m. on the second Monday in January after their election. The senior
11 of those members-elect with the most years of consecutive service as a member of
12 the House who served in the House in the immediately preceding term terms of
13 office shall preside, or in his absence or inability or due to his candidacy to be
14 elected as an officer of the House, the next most senior member shall preside.

Abstract: Provides that the senior member-elect with the most years of consecutive service
as a member of the House in the immediately preceding terms of office shall preside
over the organizational meeting of the House.
Present House Rule provides that the members of the House shall meet in the House
Chamber every four years on the second Mon. in Jan. after their election. Provides that the
senior of those members-elect with the most years of service as a member of the House who
served in the House in the preceding term shall preside, or in his absence or inability or due
to his candidacy to be elected as an officer of the House, the next most senior member shall
preside.
Proposed House Rule provides instead that the senior of those members-elect with the most
years of consecutive service as a member of the House in the immediately preceding terms
of office shall preside over the organizational meeting of the House and otherwise retains
the present House Rule.
