COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Basile High School wrestling team on winning the
2019 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division III state championship
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Basile High School wrestling team upon winning the 2019 Louisiana High
3 School Athletic Association Division III state championship.
4 WHEREAS, the Basile High School Bearcats wrestling team defeated the defending
5champions, St. Louis Catholic, by a score of 282 to 224.5 to win the Louisiana High School
6Athletic Association (LHSAA) Division III title at the CenturyLink Center in Bossier City
7on Saturday, February 9, 2019; and
8 WHEREAS, out of fourteen wrestlers, eleven Bearcats reached the semifinals, six
9advanced to the finals, and five won individual titles; senior Gavin Christ, who was the No. 1
10seed with a 39-0 record, finished a second undefeated season and earned his fourth
11consecutive championship; and
12 WHEREAS, Basile's head coach, Bryan McCoy, and assistant coaches, Carmen
13Cortez and Dave Johnson, and each wrestler, Dawson Ashford, Ethan Baziet, Christian
14Bergeron, Gavin Christ, Isaac Cortez, Logan David, Gabe Duplechin, Brevin Fields, Luke
15Fontenot, Parker Fontenot, Matthew Francois, Anphrony Guillory, Jayden Guillory, Andre
16Johnson, Gage Johnson, Luc Johnson, Ethan Langley, Hunter Langley, Cole Manuel, Baylor
17McCoy, Alex Menier, Blake Menier, Jacob Queflander, Jayce Smith, and Luis Torres are
18worthy of mention for the long hours of practice and preparation that resulted in the team
19achieving its first state title since 1991; and

1 WHEREAS, the Basile High School wrestling team brings honor and distinction,
2through its athletic excellence, to the school, to the town of Basile, and to the state of
3Louisiana.
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
5Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Basile High School wrestling team upon
6winning the 2019 LHSAA Division III state championship and does hereby extend best
7wishes for continued success for the coaches and student athletes of this outstanding
8program.
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
10to Basile High School.
