HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 20

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends the University of Louisiana System on the outstanding
job it has done in strategically planning and delivering a high-quality education to
students across the state
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend the University of Louisiana System on the outstanding job it has done in
3 strategically planning and delivering a high-quality education to students across the
4 state of Louisiana.
5 WHEREAS, the University of Louisiana (UL) System is a family of nine education
6institutions serving more than 91,500 students and awarding more than 16,500 degrees
7annually; and
8 WHEREAS, the UL System consists of Grambling State University, Louisiana Tech
9University, McNeese State University, Nicholls State University, Northwestern State
10University, Southeastern Louisiana University, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the
11University of Louisiana at Monroe, and the University of New Orleans; and 
12 WHEREAS, the UL System is one of the nation's largest postsecondary education
13systems and offers a broad spectrum of educational opportunities ranging from technical
14training at the associate level to research at the doctoral level; and
15 WHEREAS, the purpose of the UL System is to provide high-quality education that
16is cost efficient for both students and taxpayers, enabling students to reach their highest
17potential; this is a mission that the system holds very dear and fulfills year after year; and
18 WHEREAS, operating at the lowest unit cost per student per capita, the UL System
19continues to see an increase in the number of students enrolled in and graduating from each
20of the nine institutions; and

1 WHEREAS, the UL System develops young, energetic front-runners who will be the
2future leaders of postsecondary education in Louisiana while also pursuing and realizing
3cutting-edge innovations that have distinguished its universities as some the most resourceful
4in the southern region; and
5 WHEREAS, the UL System's sixteen-member board of supervisors and nine
6university presidents understand that the foundation of economic, workforce, and community
7development is human development, and they work tirelessly to develop students to compete
8at peak levels with their peers across the country; and
9 WHEREAS, by 2025, the UL System will produce 150,000 new graduates who are
10prepared for life and career success; and
11 WHEREAS, this aspiration will shape the UL System's efforts to advance
12educational attainment statewide, empower the state's citizenry, meet the needs of business
13and industry, help Louisiana's economy to grow, and enrich the state's communities.
14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
15Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the University of Louisiana System on the
16outstanding job it has done in strategically planning and delivering a high-quality education
17to students across the state of Louisiana.
18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
19the president of the University of Louisiana System.
