SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes May 25, 2019, as Louisiana EMS Memorial
Day
1 A RESOLUTION
2To recognize Saturday, May 25, 2019, as Louisiana EMS Memorial Day.
3 WHEREAS, each year, dedicated members of the Louisiana emergency medical
4services community go out into the state's communities to provide care for those in need
5during times of crisis; and
6 WHEREAS, some members of the Louisiana emergency medical services
7community provide care directly by intervening during a patient's medical emergency, while
8others do so indirectly by teaching others to provide care or by getting involved in the
9development of emergency medical service systems; and
10 WHEREAS, unfortunately, some of these professionals are victims of an untimely
11death; and
12 WHEREAS, the impact of such losses is devastating, regardless of whether they are
13due to a line of duty death or to an untimely death due to illness; and
14 WHEREAS, the Louisiana EMS Memorial Society believes that it is important to
15recognize these individuals who have made such a profound impact on emergency medical
16services in our state; and
17 WHEREAS, although there are monuments to honor fallen policemen and firemen,
18there are no such monuments for fallen emergency medical services personnel in Louisiana;

1 WHEREAS, to this end, the Louisiana EMS Memorial Society intends to build a
2memorial in Louisiana to honor the fallen members of the emergency medical services
3profession; and
4 WHEREAS, to raise money for the memorial, the Louisiana EMS Memorial Society
5will hold a bike ride on Saturday, May 25, 2019; and
6 WHEREAS, during this event, bike riders will be riding from the Louisiana state
7capitol to the Louisiana EMS Memorial Ceremony and back again and will travel a total of
811.6 miles accompanied by escort; and
9 WHEREAS, the Louisiana EMS Memorial Ceremony will take place at the
10Louisiana state fire marshal's office at 8181 Independence Boulevard, where participants
11will honor emergency medical services personnel who have passed away; and
12 WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the House of Representatives to recognize
13Saturday, May 25, 2019, as Louisiana EMS Memorial Day.
14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
15Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Saturday, May 25, 2019, as Louisiana EMS
16Memorial Day and does hereby invite the citizens of the great state of Louisiana to honor
17fallen EMS personnel by participating in this wonderful event.
