HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 22

COMMENDATIONS: Commends Northwestern State University School of Creative and
Performing Arts on its thirtieth anniversary
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Northwestern State University School of Creative and Performing Arts on
3 its thirtieth anniversary.
4 WHEREAS, the Mrs. H.D. Dear, Sr. and Alice E. Dear School of Creative and
5Performing Arts (CAPA) at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, has
6provided exemplary education for thirty years; and
7 WHEREAS, established in 1989, the school offers undergraduate and graduate
8programs in fine and graphic arts and music, and undergraduate programs in new media,
9journalism, and communication, and theatre and dance; these departments' curricula and
10programs meet the highest academic standards; and
11 WHEREAS, the school's faculty and staff strive to assist students with the acquisition
12of skills and knowledge necessary for professional careers in their chosen fields; CAPA
13students and alumni exemplify the ideals of artistic integrity; and
14 WHEREAS, a degree in an area of creative and performing arts prepares students for
15careers in education, the arts, production, management, and a variety of fields that require
16creativity and rigorous work habits.
17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
18Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Northwestern State University School
19of Creative and Performing Arts on its thirtieth anniversary; does hereby recognize and
20record for posterity the exemplary arts education the faculty provide Northwestern students;
21and does hereby express sincere appreciation for the school's singular legacy of excellence.

1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
2to Dr. Greg Handel, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and director of the School of
3Creative and Performing Arts.
