HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 22
BY REPRESENTATIVE TERRY BROWN
A RESOLUTION
To commend the Northwestern State University School of Creative and Performing Arts on
its thirtieth anniversary.
WHEREAS, the Mrs. H.D. Dear, Sr. and Alice E. Dear School of Creative and
Performing Arts (CAPA) at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, has
provided exemplary education for thirty years; and
WHEREAS, established in 1989, the school offers undergraduate and graduate
programs in fine and graphic arts and music, and undergraduate programs in new media,
journalism, and communication, and theatre and dance; these departments' curricula and
programs meet the highest academic standards; and
WHEREAS, the school's faculty and staff strive to assist students with the acquisition
of skills and knowledge necessary for professional careers in their chosen fields; CAPA
students and alumni exemplify the ideals of artistic integrity; and
WHEREAS, a degree in an area of creative and performing arts prepares students for
careers in education, the arts, production, management, and a variety of fields that require
creativity and rigorous work habits.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Northwestern State University School
of Creative and Performing Arts on its thirtieth anniversary; does hereby recognize and
record for posterity the exemplary arts education the faculty provide Northwestern students;
and does hereby express sincere appreciation for the school's singular legacy of excellence.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Dr. Greg Handel, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and director of the School of
Creative and Performing Arts.
