BY REPRESENTATIVES CARMODY, GLOVER, AND JENKINS
COMMENDATIONS: Commends Arthur Thompson on receipt of the Shreveport Bar
Association Liberty Bell Award
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Arthur G. Thompson upon his receipt of the Liberty Bell Award from the
3 Shreveport Bar Association.
4 WHEREAS, the Liberty Bell Award was established more than forty years ago to
5acknowledge outstanding community service; it is presented to individuals or organizations
6that promote better understanding of the rule of law, encourage greater respect for law and
7the courts, stimulate a sense of civic responsibility, or contribute to good government in the
8community; and
9 WHEREAS, on May 1, 2019, Arthur Thompson was aptly awarded the Liberty Bell
10Award by the Shreveport Bar Association; and
11 WHEREAS, since 1985, Arthur Thompson has held the elected position of the city
12of Shreveport's clerk of council, having been elected by nine different city councils and
13forty-three council members; and
14 WHEREAS, Arthur Thompson earned his bachelor and juris doctor degrees from
15Southern University in Baton Rouge; he was a captain in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate
16General's Corps for four years and served as a special court martial judge during his final
17year of military service; and
18 WHEREAS, Arthur Thompson has served on the Biomedical Research Foundation's
19board of directors since 2005; in 2018, he became chairman of the board; and

1 WHEREAS, ever active in his community, he has also served on the Caddo Parish
2School Board and Metropolitan Planning Commission of Shreveport and Caddo Parish, and
3in leadership positions on the board of Providence House and Strategic Action Council; and
4 WHEREAS, Arthur is supported by his loving wife, Margaret; he is the proud father
5of Bryan and Dionne and grandfather of Phineas.
6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
7Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Arthur G. Thompson for receiving the
8Liberty Bell Award from the Shreveport Bar Association; does hereby recognize and record
9for posterity his demonstrated respect for law through his service to the community; and
10does hereby wish him every measure of success and happiness in all his future endeavors.
11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
12Arthur G. Thompson.
