PUBLIC BUILDINGS/ST CAPL:  Names the office suite within the state capitol housing
the Louisiana Republican Legislative Delegation in honor of Charles D. Lancaster,
Jr.
1	A RESOLUTION
2To designate the Louisiana Republican Legislative Delegation office suite within the state
3 capitol in honor of Charles D. "Charlie" Lancaster, Jr.
4 WHEREAS, first elected in 1971, Charles D. "Charlie" Lancaster, Jr., served as a
5distinguished member of the Louisiana House of Representatives for thirty-two years; and
6 WHEREAS, Charlie Lancaster was the first Republican elected to office in Jefferson
7Parish and the longest-serving Republican elected official in Louisiana history; he is credited
8with making significant contributions to build the Republican Party in Jefferson Parish and
9across Louisiana; and
10 WHEREAS, during his long and highly effective career in public service, Charlie
11Lancaster fully used every opportunity to serve his constituency and the citizens of the state
12of Louisiana in an honorable and dedicated manner; and
13 WHEREAS, seldom has there been a member of the legislature who earned the
14reputation for civility and bipartisanship held by Charlie Lancaster, who was regarded most
15highly by all members of the legislature as one of the most effective members of this

1distinguished body, a true representative of the needs and interests of his district and the
2state as a whole; and
3 WHEREAS, Charlie Lancaster was a man whose dedication to improving Louisiana
4was always evident, for he was a public servant whose concern for his fellow citizens was
5a key component in making public policy; and
6 WHEREAS, it is the intention of the members of the House of Representatives to
7recognize and to honor the extraordinary contributions of Charles D. "Charlie" Lancaster,
8Jr., to the legislature as an institution and to the state and to distinguish the Republican
9Legislative Delegation office suite in the state capitol, by naming it after Charles D.
10"Charlie" Lancaster, Jr.
11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
12Legislature of Louisiana does hereby name and designate the Republican Legislative
13Delegation office suite in the Louisiana State Capitol as the Lancaster Suite, by which
14designation this office suite in the basement of the capitol building shall be known hereafter.
15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that appropriate steps shall be taken to install signs
16or other markers to permanently designate the office suite as the Lancaster Suite.
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
18family of Charles D. "Charlie" Lancaster, Jr., the caucus administrator of the Louisiana
19Republican Legislative Delegation, the commissioner of administration, the speaker of the
20House of Representatives, and the president of the Senate.
