COMMENDATIONS: Commends the organizers, volunteers, and royal court of the 2019
Italian Festival in Tickfaw
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the organizers, volunteers, and royal court of the 2019 Italian Festival in
3 Tickfaw.
4 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the organizers and volunteers of the Italian
5Festival, held annually in April in Tickfaw, Louisiana; and
6 WHEREAS, this unique event has been a beloved tradition for the people of Tickfaw
7and beyond since the first festival was held in the village a decade ago; and
8 WHEREAS, the festival was organized many years ago and was originally called
9"The Little Italy Festival"; the festival moved to Tickfaw in 2009; and
10 WHEREAS, citizens of Italian descent comprise a significant percentage of south
11Louisiana's population and have had a tremendous impact on Louisiana culture, from
12architectural masonry to foodways to jazz and brass band music; and
13 WHEREAS, the annual Italian Festival in Tickfaw is a family-friendly celebration
14of Italian-American culture and heritage featuring carnival rides, arts and crafts,
15entertainment from local bands, a parade, food drive, ball, and pageant; in the Spaghetti
16Cook-Off, judges name winners in the categories of best sauce, meatballs, and table
17decorations; and
18 WHEREAS, Mason Burnette, a young woman of many gifts and talents, reigns as
19the 2019 Italian Festival Queen with great distinction and dedication; Sherry Lemay reigns
20as the Spaghetti Queen and Anthony "Tony" Lamonte reigns as the Grand Marshal; and

1 WHEREAS, the organizers and volunteers of the 2019 Italian Festival in Tickfaw
2merit a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for the tremendous pride and honor
3that this wonderful annual event brings to the citizens of Louisiana.
4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
5Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the organizers, volunteers, and royal court
6of the 2019 Italian Festival in Tickfaw and does hereby recognize this extraordinary fair and
7festival as an integral part of the celebration of the culture and history of Italian-Americans
8in Tickfaw and the state of Louisiana.
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
10to Veda Abene, chairperson of the 2019 Italian Festival in Tickfaw.
